Identification Lists – Individuals

This section outlines the identification documents required for account signatories (including any Power of Attorney) and/or individual account holders to meet the requirements of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006.

Original documents or certified copies must be provided with a Certification Form completed by a Certifier from one of the 15 approved categories. The documents must verify the client’s full name, address, and date of birth.

Important:
If providing an Australian or Foreign Passport, you must also provide an additional document showing your current address. For foreign passports, proof of the right to reside in Australia (e.g., Visa) is required.


Document Requirements

For individuals, provide:

  • One (1) document from List A, and
  • Two (2) documents from List B, or
  • One (1) document from List B and One (1) document from List C.

All documents must be current unless specified otherwise. If any document is in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by an accredited English translation.

List A – Primary Photographic Identification

(Choose one)

  • Driver licence (including Digital Driver Licence) or learner’s permit (Australian or foreign)
  • Australian Passport (current or expired within the last 2 years)
  • Foreign Passport (issued by a foreign government, the United Nations, or an agency of the United Nations)
  • Travel document – Foreign
  • National identity card (foreign only)
  • Proof of age card (Australian only)
  • Boat Licence – Australian
  • Taxi Licence – Australian
  • KEYPASS Photo ID card
  • 18+ Proof of age card
  • Blind Citizens Australia identity card
  • Multiple Sclerosis Society photo identity card
  • Student identity card – Australian higher education (TAFE or University)
  • Working With Children check card (Blue card) QLD, VIC, WA
  • NSW RTA photo card or Proof of age card
  • Australian government shooter’s/firearms licence
  • Australian Defence Force Identity card (excluding Spouse card)

List B – Primary Non-Photographic Identification

(Choose one or two)

  • Driver Licence – Australia (without photo)
  • Birth Certificate – Australia (full or extract)
  • Birth Certificate – Foreign
  • Citizenship Certificate – Australian
  • Citizenship Certificate – Foreign
  • Pension card – Centrelink
  • Pension card – Department of Veteran’s Affairs
  • Visa (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au)

List C – Secondary Identification (Australian only)

(Choose one if using List B + C combination)

  • Government financial benefits notice (issued within the preceding 12 months)
  • Australian Taxation Office notice (issued within the preceding 12 months)
  • Local government or public utility bill (issued within the preceding 3 months)
  • A notice issued by the Commonwealth, State or Territory which:
    • contains the name of the person and their residential address
    • records the provision of financial benefits to the individual under a law of the Commonwealth, State or Territory
  • Marriage certificate
  • Medicare card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health card or State Seniors card
  • Financial institution statement (bank or credit card) which contains the applicant’s name and residential address (issued within the preceding 3 months)
  • For a person under 18, a notice from a school principal recording the time the person attended the school (issued within the preceding 3 months)

Certification:
Originals or certified copies must be verified by a Certifier from one of the 15 approved categories using a Certification Form.
